HORSE RESOURCES

A Modern Horse Herbal

by Hilary Page Self

This brilliant book has been my horse health bible for almost twenty years. The author provides owners with the means of helping their horses themselves. Following her natural remedies often reduces the need to call the veteriarian.

My own vet used to say, ‘Just do your magic- it’s clearly working!’

201 More Handy Hints For Horse Persons

by Karen Bush

This fun (and really useful) book was given to me by my uncle. Being a cyclist, he drew my attention to Hint #61; ‘If you tend to get saddle sore but cannot wear a seat saver (in competitions for example) try wearing a pair of padded Lycra cyclist’s pants beneath your jodhpurs.’ I also like #111; ‘When handling nervous horses, scratch the neck and along the crest with your fingertips rather than give hearty pats: the horse will find the action far more soothing and less aggressive.’

Any horse person will find hidden gems like these!

WRITING TOOLS

Take Off Your Pants

by Libbie Hawker

If you are an aspiring fiction writer, I HIGHLY recommend this book. The title refers to the phenomenon among authors of flying by the seat of our pants when we sit down to pen our books. Libbie demonstrates how much smarter (and easier) it is to outline the plot first. She provides clear steps to ensure a smooth process.

This is the book I use whenever I start work on a new novel, and it’s garnered me best sellers every time.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday

This is a must-read for anyone who wants to fulfill their potential in life. In today’s world, it’s hard not to want to promote ourselves. But self gets in the way: this book shows how to fight the battle against ego and win true achievement.
