Set to the beat of thundering hooves, bitter atheism meets powerful Christian love in this second chance romance.
After eighteen years, Rachel is still seeking revenge for the death of her husband, whose murderer was never caught.
Then she reads about the Pearls, a herd of palomino horses running wild on uninhabited Cuddie Island and takes a three month sabbatical from teaching biology to research the beautiful animals.
While staying on neighboring Sinclair Island, she meets Gordon, co-author of the book that set her imagination on fire and last of the lighthouse keepers on Cuddie Island. When he takes her to see the Pearls, she becomes smitten not only with the stunning horses, but also with him.
As they work closely with the Pearls, their love for the feisty horses leads to them to deep feelings for each other. Rachel knows her atheism is a barrier to any lasting relationship and pretends to be Christian. But the closer they become, the harder it is to risk disclosing the truth.
How will Gordon react when he discovers she’s been deceiving him?
Will Rachel be forced to leave the one man whose love can save her?

Wonderful rendition of the struggle to submit 100% to the Lord. The doubts and disappointments that are part of Christian life that can actually make us stronger with the help of God and strong Christian friends. The characters are so real, I wish I could meet them. May God continue to bless Ms. Walker’s ministry to teach and challenge her readers to grow in Christ! – Rachael Smith
5 STARS: SUCH A WONDERFUL STORY OF FAITH AND LOVE
I really enjoyed reading this beautiful story of faith and redemption. Getting to know all these very special people over the course of reading the Sinclair Island and Hilton Head books is truly a joy, as they really do support each other in times of need, and also in times of celebration. And horses play a big part in their lives; who can resist that? Lots of adventures and romance here, with Rachel and Gordon, revealing that you’re never too old to experience something new, and so worthwhile. – Normal J. Riddell
